Ignoring the blacklist

NOTE: Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 no longer uses compiz-manager and has patched their version of compiz to include all checks into the compiz binary without a way to bypass them. While most of the checks are there for a good reason, options for getting around them include hex editing the binary, using karmic packages or building from source.

Sometimes you want to start compiz-manager even though compiz-manager blacklists it, this is easy enough:

SKIP_CHECKS=yes compiz-manager

Or in the case of distributions that name the script 'compiz':

SKIP_CHECKS=yes compiz

You can also store this value, where it is depends on your distribution, usually it is a matter of putting

SKIP_CHECKS=yes

in ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager .
